Monoscene: Advanced Longform

For improvisers ready to expand their acting, patience, and ensemble storytelling.

The monoscene is a challenging, rewarding longform format where the entire show takes place in a single location, in real time, with no edits. It demands presence, grounded emotion, character commitment, and strong ensemble awareness — making it one of the richest formats for improvisers who want to elevate their acting and storytelling.

In this Assembly intensive, students will learn how to build layered worlds, maintain consistent characters, and create an engaging longform show without relying on edits to escape or reset.

  How to hold tension, allow silence, build momentum, and follow the story as it emerges.

Live Performance: Two 30-Minute Monoscenes

Students will perform two full 30-minute monoscenes in front of a live audience. Each performance gives the ensemble real-time experience building a world from scratch and sustaining it with honesty and presence.

Prerequisite

This course is intended for improvisers with intermediate or advanced longform experience. Students should be confident with grounded scene work, character choices, and ensemble support.
