The Macroscene: One-Location Longform

For performers who want to build rich worlds, dynamic character webs, and ensemble-driven comedy — all inside a single, shared location.

The Macroscene is a relationship-focused longform where the entire show takes place in one environment. Instead of cutting between scenes, players stay grounded in a continuous world filled with interconnected characters, evolving dynamics, and heightening moments. This Assembly-format trains improvisers to create depth, texture, and momentum without ever leaving the room.

Perfect for players who love character work, emotional logic, and ensemble collaboration.

What You’ll Learn

World-Building in One Location

How to establish a clear, playable setting and build a space that feels alive, specific, and dynamic for the entire show.

Character Webs & Interconnected Relationships

Creating grounded characters with distinct points of view, then weaving them together into a living community.

Emotional Game & Behavioural Heightening

Finding the fun in patterns, behaviour, and relationship shifts — and amplifying them without jumping locations or concepts.

Ensemble Movement & Shared Focus

Navigating entrances, exits, proximity, and multi-character scenes so the location feels full, coherent, and active.

Momentum Without Edits

Keeping the show moving through emotional shifts, escalating stakes, and smart discoveries instead of hard cuts.

Live Performance: Two 30-Minute Macroscene Shows

Students will perform two full Macroscene sets, applying character work, world-building, and ensemble responsiveness under real performance conditions. Notes and coaching follow each show.

Prerequisite

Intermediate or advanced longform experience. Students should be confident in grounded scene work, emotional presence, and supporting ensemble play within sustained environments.
